Katie Jay, MSW, is director of the National Association for Weight Loss Surgery, is a certified WLS life coach, and is author of Dying to Change: My Really Heavy Life Story, How Weight Loss Surgery Gave Me Hope for Living.

Katie had weight loss surgery (WLS) in 2004 and maintains a 200-pound weight loss.

Recognized as a leading spokesperson for WLS, Katie has appeared on CNN Radio, and was featured in Women's World and The National Enquirer.

With her deeply personal, insightful, and entertaining message, Katie is a favorite speaker at WLS support groups and conferences.

Katie founded NAWLS to support the long-term success of people committed to WLS not only as a way to reshape their bodies, but as a starting point for shaping better lives.

Katie earned her Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and her undergraduate degree in Writing from George Mason University (GMU). At GMU, she competed on the forensics team, winning several speaking awards.
Katie also draws on years of corporate experience from her "first career" as a communications manager, business writer, and editor. Katie lives in North Carolina (near the beach!) with her husband Mike, son Barrett, and their delightfully annoying kitty, Lucy.
Presentations
Do You Have a Fat Personality? (Keynote)
Are there good reasons why you struggle to live a healthy and fulfilled life? If you answered YES to this question – or even considered answering yes – maybe you have what Katie Jay calls a fat personality.

Let’s face it; in addition to the physical challenges, obese people have psychological and behavioral obstacles to overcome if they want to get slim and stay that way for life. Sixty-eight percent of us have eating disorders – or a disordered way of relating to food.

If you truly want to overcome your obesity for good, you will have to make some personality changes or else the old behaviors and coping mechanisms will creep back in.

Discover the three critical personality traits that will catapult you to success – or lead you back to obesity in the blink of an eye. Katie will share her personal experience, as well as her finely-honed understanding of the human condition to inspire you to thrive on your weight loss surgery journey.
Action Plan for Success: Let's Put it in Writing! (Workshop)
This hands-on session is both practical and enlightening. Using a template, you will be coached on crafting your very own life-long action plan for success -- complete with expectations, goals, and strategies to keep you on track. Remember, if you fail to plan, you could be planning to fail.
